The Effect of Workload and Work Environment on ATC Safety Performance at AirNav Palembang
Abstract
This research aims to examine the influence of workload and work environment on the safety performance of Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) at AirNav Palembang. The study employs a quantitative research method. The population consists of Air Traffic Control (ATC) personnel in the Approach Control Surveillance unit of Palembang, totaling 53 individuals, with a sample size of 46 respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The findings reveal a significant and negative correlation between workload and ATC safety performance, with a correlation coefficient of -0.754 and a contribution of 56.8%, while the remaining variance is attributed to other factors. Furthermore, the correlation between the work environment and ATC safety performance is found to be moderate and positive, with a coefficient of 0.568 and a contribution of 32.2%, with the remaining variance also influenced by other factors. Additionally, a moderate and negative correlation is observed between workload and work environment, with a coefficient of -0.477. The multiple correlation analysis demonstrates a strong simultaneous relationship between workload and work environment with ATC safety performance, with a correlation coefficient of 0.790 and a combined influence of 62.5%, leaving the remaining variance influenced by external factors.
